The "telegarden"
The telegarden was an internet connected art installation which allowed user to view and interact with living plants in a garden remotely. Participants were able to plant seeds, water, monitor by controlling a mounted robotic arm.

Going even further I can imagine interfacing with biological systems on a microscopic level. "Programming" DNA chains and designing biological systems is widely done today.
